July was definitely a movie theater month for me! I saw not one, not two, but THREE movies on the big screen this month. We spent several days at Purdue University for the Speedo Champions Series Section 3 where my daughter competed. We had some down-time when we didn't need to be at the pool so we used that opportunity to see two movies,
Despicable Me and
The Sorcerer's Apprentice. We enjoyed both of them very much. Last week, my daughter and I went to see
Inception. Great movie, great special effects - I'm looking forward to seeing it again on DVD with subtitles (I found some of the dialogue difficult to understand).
Movies from July
- Michael (John Travolta as an angel) ****
- True Blood Season 2 ****
- Valentine's Day ****
- Miss Potter ****
- The Nanny Diaries ****
- The Closer Season 5 ****
- Despicable Me ***
- The Sorcerer's Apprentice ****
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (again) *****
- Inception ****
While I'm not able to cross any books off my
classics list, I did read several very entertaining books this month and had the delight of listening to the first book in the Harry Potter series
again with my daughter. Right now, I have completed 32 books towards my local library's 50 Book Challenge this year.
Books from July
- Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris ****
- Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris ****
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J. K. Rowling (audio) *****
- Touch of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning ****
- Nefertiti by Michelle Moran ****
So, did you see any great movies in July? Did you read any fabulous books?

I have a friend that insisted that I needed to read Moning's Fever series...so I read DarkFever. Have you read those? I really liked it - and haven't read any of her other books yet. Best book I have read all summer: "The Lonely Polygamist" - actually it might be the best book I have read in YEARS!
We saw "Inception" two weekends ago - and just loved it. What a smart and original movie. (They don't make those any more that's for sure!) Have you seen Toy Story 3? That is my other favorite from the summer. And if you go to youtube, there is this great commerical mashup between them: Toy Story 3: Inception. It's hilarious!
Oh, and at our homeschool expo this past weekend, I got the Atlier art program. I am so excited about using it!
Great lists! We saw Toy Story 3 on July 4th. It was really cute. Not sure what we'll be seeing next.:)
I too have read the Sookie Stackhouse series and watch True Blood, and love them both, sometimes it's quite graphic but I love the stories anyway.
I am currently re-reading the 2nd Harry Potter, as my 11yr old has read them all and convinced me to re-read the first 3 and then read the last 4 before the last movie comes out. I have alot of reading to do if I am to get them all done!
Love your book and movie list!
If you like fantasty and Super Natural books, LJ Smith has alot of good ones, including the Vampire Diaries.
Amy,
I've never actually READ the Harry Potter books. I've listened to them on CD - going on three times now! Jim Dale, the narrator, is incredible. I think most of the reason I love those books so much is because of Jim Dale. Perhaps this would be a way for you to re-read them while you're doing other things!
