I can hardly believe that my wiggly, sweet middle child is now taller than me and is getting ready to start 7th grade! He's definitely grown up, though, and is now even taller than me! ***We will be watching Johnny Tremain and The Sign of the Beaver rather than reading the books. I also removed The Witch of Blackbird Pond from the read-aloud list for my boys and added it to my daughter's high school reading list for history.
I am still working on choosing all of the videos I want my boys to watch as part of their History program. I know for sure that we'll be watching the following videos:
- Drive Thru American History Series
- Drive Thru History Discovering America's Founders
- National Geographic: Lewis and Clark: Great Journey West (IMAX film, 41 minutes)
- Indians of North America (Schlessinger Media); We will be watching selected DVDs from this series of 20 DVDs to acquaint my boys with the wide variety of cultures among Native Americans in different parts of North America.
- America The Story of US - We will be watching the first 4 episodes of this series.
Swim team practice - Mason practices 5 times a week with his USA swimming team. The practices include dry -land exercises which encompass weight-training and a wide variety of aerobic exercises. Mason is in the Gold group and his practice schedule is included below:

Wednesday: Mason attends Youth Group at church on Wednesday evenings.

***If you would like to read my detailed review of this curriculum, please visit my review at The Curriculum Choice.
Typing – Typing Instructor Platinum - Duncan will be working through this wonderful program three times per week.
Books on Tape
In addition to the aforementioned curriculum, Mason will be required to listen to a chapter each day of a book on tape. By including a book listening time in his school day, I am increasing the amount of books to which he is exposed. Mason reads along with the book while listening to the book on tape.
- The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog
- The Indian in the Cupboard
- The Whipping Boy
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
- Maniac Magee
- The Hobbit
- The House of the Scorpion
- A Christmas Carol
- Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde
- Selected Short Stories by Edgar Allen Poe
- The Giver
Mason is learning to play the electric guitar. He takes a weekly lesson at a local music shop and practices daily.
I am linking this curriculum post up with the Not Back-to-School Blog Hop at Heart of the Matter. If you love to read about the curriculum choices of other homeschoolers (and what homeschool mom doesn't!), I encourage you to check out the other bloggers that linked up as well.
